2022 has ended, and you may have missed some of your favourite or even unheard events of the year; the reasons can be numerous. If you want to avoid that happening again this year, mark your calendar early, selecting from the list of major events that will happen this year in the country.

Prateek Kuhad - The Way That Lovers Do Tour

Young sensational Indian singer and songwriter Prateek Kuhad will be in Nepal to soothe Nepali ears with his soulful music in the serenity of Gokarna Forest Resort on January 7.

The audience had to shoo away their excitement about the arrival of Kuhad in 2019 when the county adopted strict lockdown due to the pandemic. Now, with the news of his arrival again, the Kuhad fans’ long wait to see their favourite idol LIVE on stage is soon going to end.

Though Kuhad’s first music came out in 2011, it was only in 2020 that he gained immense popularity after releasing his song ‘cold/mess’. Since then, the artist has produced several songs like ‘Khone Do’, ‘Tere Hi Hum’, ‘Kasoor’, and ‘Hollow’, among others.

The event scheduled for January 7, is jointly organised by Eleven11, Spektrum, and MN Entertainment, the event management companies. Tickets can be purchased for Rs 3,500 in Phase 1, which would go up to Rs 4,500 in Phase 2. VIP ticket worth Rs 7,000 is available to those wanting a seat in the front row and access to the afterparty following the show. Guests can buy food and beverages from the multiple stalls at the resort.

Popular Nepali artists like Trishala Gurung, Rohit Shakya, Wangden Sherpa, Darpan Niroula, Samir Shrestha, Aabhiskar KC, and Prabesh Kumar Shrestha will perform the opening acts.

The Enfield Rendezvous & Poker Run

An event that all bikers must know about is Poker Run organised by the Sacred Summits and endorsed by Nepal Tourism Board. After 12 years of success, The Enfield Rendezvous & Poker Run will witness the 13th edition of the grand bikers’ event in 2023.

In its first edition in 2009, the Poker Run witnessed participation of 22 people, which grew to over 300 riders in 2022 and is growing every year. The event has established itself to be the biggest riding fest in South Asia.

This three-day event kicks off on April 13 (Nepali new year's eve) with a mass gathering of hundreds of bikers from major cities like Biratnagar, Birganj, Bhairahawa, Chitwan, Dharan, Hetaudah, Janakpur, Jhapa, Kathmandu, Lumbini, Nepalgunj, Pokhara, and Surkhet. Locals, expats and travelling tourists participate with great enthusiasm. If you own a Royal Enfield or have a bike of 300cc and above, this is just the right event to join the national and international motorcycle riders to ‘celebrate the new year in style’.

On the first day, the riders start their journey early in the morning from Kathmandu, stopping on the way for lunch and collecting poker cards, to finally reach Pokhara in the evening, followed by a countdown for Nepali New Year. On the second day, April 14, the riders participate in a charity ride to local schools of Pokhara to donate stationery and sports equipment. Riders also get an option to spend time in Pokhara, participating in adventure and leisure activities like boating, bungee jumping, or paragliding.

On the same day, the riders are awarded titles; Best Poker Hand, Best Enfield Award, Senior Citizen Award, Longest Distance Rider, and Best Supporting Woman Rider. Hard Luck Award is a quirky prize given to the motorcycle with the most breakdowns. There are mechanics following the riders to ensure you don't get stuck on the highway with your broken bike. The event ends on the third day when riders return to Kathmandu or depart to their destinations.

Due to the pandemic, the event was halted in 2020 and 2021, making a comeback in 2022. The organisers are expecting a large participation from the motorcycle community of Aizawl, Bangalore, Delhi, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Pune, Shillong, Guwahati, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Siliguri.
