New Baneshwor area has turned into a battle ground on Saturday afternoon after police fired 23 rounds of teargas shells at a rally organised by Tarun Dal, youth wing of main opposition Nepali Congress.
It has been learnt that police fired teargas canisters after the cadres of Tarun Dal tried to enter the restricted area.
Tarun Dal President Jeet Jung Basnet and some protestors and 11 police personnel including two DSPs—Kuldeep Chand and Dan Bahadur Malla—one Inspector whose identity is yet to be established—were injured in the clash.
Meanwhile, photo journalists Prabin Maharjan and Skanda Gautam among others were also injured in the incident.
