Security chiefs say measures in place for local elections

During a meeting with the security chiefs, PM Dahal said that elections would be held on the announced date of May 14.
Nepal Army chief Rajendra Chhetri; Nepal Police chief Prakash Aryal, Armed Police Force chief Singha Bahadur Shrestha and National Investigation Department chief Dilip Regmi attended the meeting.
In a statement issued by PM Dahal’s Secretariat, the chiefs of security agencies apprised the prime minister of security situation, saying that they were all prepared for the polls.
“Prime minister wanted to know about our security preparations; we briefed him accordingly,” said Nepal Police chief Aryal.
The government has decided to deploy 226,000 security personnel for local the elections taking place after two decades. The Ministry of Home Affairs is also conducting security analysis across the country and many districts of Tarai area have been listed as sensitive in the wake of the agitating Madhes-based parties’ decision to boycott and disrupt polls.
