Over three dozen squatters living on the riverbanks stretching from Pepsicola to Jadibuti fled their homes on Tuesday as floodwaters engulfed their settlements.
A swollen Hanumante river inundated the Maheshwori playground in Bhaktapur Municipality as well as some settlements in Sallaghari, Nayabasti, parts of Siddhi Memorial Hospital and Radhe Radhe in Madhyapur Thimi.
Police say an excavator was being used to channelise the river’s course. According to SP Kiran Bajracharya, the road section that leads to Ashapur from Doleshwor Mahadev was blocked by a landslide.
Ways leading to Nagarkot in Mohanpokhari were also obstructed by mudslides. Four houses at Kharipati in Nagarkot Municipality are at high risk of landslide.
“No human casualties have been reported but we got a lot of complaints of transport disruption,” said Tez Prasad Paudel, the chief district officer. Over 300 security personnel are ready for deployment in case of an emergency, he added.
