As the deadline to forge consensus regarding the election of President comes to an end, the name of former Chief Justrice and Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi is making rounds as the candidate for the post.
The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has proposed Regmi’s name and is searching for consensus for his election as the President.
As per the timetable issued by the Legislature-Parliament, the deadline for the election of President through consensus ends on Tuesday evening. If no consensus is forged, the President will be elected through majority voting process on Wednesday.
However, NC and CPN-UML are yet to finalise their candidates for the post.
Meanwhile, in a meeting of CPN-UML standing committee held at Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar today, PM and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli disclosed that NC had proposed the name of Regmi for President.
A source informed that UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal has also supported the nomination of Regmi. Likewise, UML Senior leader Madhav Nepal and other leaders are also in favour of Regmi.
