An employee of Malikarjun Rural Municipality in Darchula district was killed in a road accident in India.
Jagadish Awasthi, head of the municipality’s enterprise development section and a resident of ward 5 of the rural municipality, died after being hit by a vehicle in Lucknow on Sunday, the municipality said.
According to Chief Administrative Officer Nar Bahadur Thagunna, Awasthi was travelling to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj when he was struck by a vehicle while stepping out of his own.
He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Thagunna said the rural municipality declared a day of mourning on Monday.
