Achham
The rural assembly meeting of Turmakhand Rural Municipality in Achham, a hill district of Sudurpaschim Province, has been postponed due to the protest by people’s representatives from Dalit communities.
All 13 Dalit representatives decided to boycott the assembly meeting scheduled for Monday demanding that their rights be recognised.
The disgruntled people’s representatives claimed that the rural municipality was adamant to empower the Dalit community.
“The rural municipality has a total of 26 employees, but there is not a single Dalit. We are compelled to boycott the assembly meeting as the local unit is indifferent to Dalit rights,” said Jhankar Nepali, an executive committee member of the local body.
