Post Report
The Nagarik Unmukti Party will join the Sudurpaschim government.
The party agreed to join the Kamal Bahadur Shah-led government following a discussion with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Baluwatar on Tuesday.
Leaders said the party will be assigned two ministerial berths including a state minister as per the power-sharing deal. Laxman Kishor Chaudhary, the party’s provincial assembly member, said the party will lead the Ministry of Agriculture.
Naresh Shahi, Minister for Economic Affairs of Sudurpaschim Province, who is also the leader of the CPN (United Socialist), said a deal has been also forged to increase the number of provincial assembly committees to six and give the leadership of the two to the Nagarik Unmukti Party.
On May 20, Sudurpaschim Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah expanded his Cabinet for the second time, inducting three new ministers and one minister of state.
The Cabinet failed to get a full shape as the ruling Nagarik Unmukti Party didn’t recommend any name from the party expressing its disagreement over the power-sharing deal. The party didn’t join the government after the Nepali Congress refused to allocate two ministries to the regional party as per its demand.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law is also vacant after the incumbent minister Prithvi Bahadur Singh died in a road accident on June 21.
Nepali Congress provincial assembly leader Shah was appointed Sudurpaschim chief minister on February 9 with the backing of the Congress, the CPN (Maoist Centre), the CPN (Unified Socialist) and the Nagarik Unmukti Party.
