Rhinos to tour World Cup co-hosts India, Sri Lanka before the main event
The tour will allow Stuart Law’s side to get acclimatised to the conditions of Mumbai as Nepal are playing matches at Brabourne Cricket Stadium, which is barely a kilometre from Wankhede.Post Report
The Cricket Association of Nepal, on Tuesday, revealed two tours of the Rhinos before the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The tours are scheduled in Sri Lanka and India, two co-hosts of the main event slated for February and March.
There had been anticipation regarding whether or not Nepal will have good exposure before the World Cup kicked off. Now, that has been resolved.
Though Nepal will not be playing the senior teams of India and Sri Lanka during the 12-day tour, they will be spending quality time getting acclimated to the conditions there.
As per the schedule revealed by the CAN, the Rhinos will first visit Sri Lanka. There, Stuart Law’s team will play three T20 matches against Sri Lanka ‘A’.
The first T20 against Sri Lanka ‘A’ is on January 20 at the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLLDC) Cricket Ground in Nawala, a region on the outskirts of Colombo. The second and third T20s are being played at the nearby Colts Cricket Club Ground on January 22 and 24, respectively.
The Rhinos will be busy in practice sessions in Sri Lanka on January 19, 21 and 23.
While the plans for January 25 and 26 have not been disclosed, the Rhinos will be resuming their practice in Mumbai on January 27.
After one more day for practice sessions on January 28, Nepal will be facing the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) President XI at the ground of the Cricket Club of India (CCI) on January 29. The ground of CCI refers to the historic Brabourne Cricket Stadium.
Out of the two T20s scheduled with MCA President XI, the second match, which will be a day/night fixture, will take place on January 31.
Brabourne Cricket Stadium and Wankhede Stadium, the venue for Nepal’s group-stage matches of the World Cup, are less than a kilometre apart. Thus, the matches against MCA President XI will provide the Rhinos enough exposure to the weather conditions of Wankhede.
Placed in Group C, Nepal are facing England, Italy, the West Indies and Bangladesh on February 8, 12, 15 and 17, respectively.
