CAN lifts ban on Mohammad Aadil Ansari after court acquittal
The cricketer is now eligible to play domestic and international matches following clearance of spot-fixing charges.
Post Report
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has officially lifted the suspension imposed on cricketer Mohammad Aadil Ansari, clearing the way for his return to domestic and international cricket.
According to CAN spokesperson Chhumbi Lama, the decision to revoke the ban, effective from May 4, was based on the findings of CAN’s Integrity Committee, which reviewed the Kathmandu District Court’s verdict acquitting Ansari of all spot-fixing charges.
Ansari had been under suspension since allegations emerged of his involvement in spot-fixing during the Nepal T20 League, held from December 24, 2022, to January 11, 2023.
He was accused under CAN’s anti-corruption code and barred from participating in any official matches.
However, in March last year, the Kathmandu District Court acquitted Ansari along with former national cricketer Mehboob Alam and three others, citing a lack of sufficient evidence.
The court ruled that the prosecution failed to substantiate claims that the accused had engaged in or attempted to influence match outcomes.
Following the court’s decision and internal assessment, CAN has now allowed Ansari to resume his professional career.
