Nepal Under-19 secured their second consecutive victory in the ACC U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifiers with a dominant eight-wicket win over Oman Under-19 at the Mulpani Cricket Ground on Monday.
Chasing a modest target of 118, Nepal cruised to victory in just 14.3 overs, with a blistering 85-run partnership between Sahil Patel and Niraj Yadav. Niraj top-scored with 46 off 31 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes, while Sahil made 44 off 42 deliveries, including three boundaries and a six.
Captain Naren Bhatta added a quickfire 12 off 9 balls with two fours, and Santosh Yadav sealed the win with an unbeaten 10 from just 5 deliveries, also hitting two boundaries.
Earlier, leg spinner Yuvraj Khatri produced a match-winning spell, picking up 5 wickets for just 15 runs in 7 overs, including a maiden. Introduced as the seventh bowler, Khatri broke through in the 30th over and went on to claim Oman’s final five wickets, helping bowl them out for 117 in 38 overs.
Santosh Yadav supported well with figures of 2-14 from his 8 overs including a maiden. Ashok Dhami, Aparajit Paudel, and Dayanand Mandal, who replaced Darsh Sonar in the lineup, took one wicket apiece.
Oman’s Jeet Vrajesh Shah put up some resistance with 52 off 78 balls, striking six boundaries. However, he received little support as only Siddharth Shankar (16) and Prathiesh Hema Ramesh (10) reached double figures. Kavish Rajeshkumar Shah remained unbeaten on 9.
This marks Nepal’s second win in as many games, following their nail-biting five-run victory over UAE on Saturday. Oman, meanwhile, have now lost two in a row after their opening defeat to Afghanistan. The top team from the round-robin tournament will qualify for the ICC U-19 World Cup.
