Acting Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Prashant Bikram Malla has resigned from the post.
Malla submitted his resignation during the board meeting of CAN held in Pokhara on Tuesday.
Malla’s resignation comes amid heavy criticism of the nation’s cricket governing body following the spot-fixing controversy during the Nepal T20 League.
Malla was the President of the Governing Council of the Nepal T20 League which was held from December 24, 2022, to January 11, 2023.
Malla was serving as the acting secretary of CAN after Ashok Nath Pyakurel resigned from the post in October last year.
Following, Malla’s resignation, board member Durga Raj Pathak has been handed over the responsibility of acting secretary.
Seven board members have been demanding the resignation of CAN president Chatur Bahadur Chand along with other officials of the executive committee following the controversies surrounding the Nepal T20 League. The disgruntled board members also skipped the CAN board meeting held in Pokhara on Tuesday.
The executive committee meeting of the CAN on Tuesday had decided to lift the suspension of former captain Sandeep Lamichhane, who has been accused of raping a minor.
