APF Club defeated their departmental rivals Police 3-1 in the women’s volleyball final to win gold in Myagdi at the Ninth National Games on Wednesday.
In an entertaining game at the Beni’s Khulla Manch, APF won the first two sets 25-19 and 28-26 but lost the third 24-26. However, APF bounced back to claim the third set 25-19 to kill off the game.
APF’s Niruta Thagunna was adjudged player of the match.

APF’s men’s team also reached the final after they defeated Gandaki 25-21, 27-25, 25-15. They will face Army, who overcame Police 25-18, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, in the gold medal clash on Thursday.
-Rai breaks weightlifting record to win gold-
Nepal Police Club’s Bidhya Rai set a national record in the snatch in the above 87 kg weightlifting category in Pokhara on Wednesday.
Rai lifted a record 76 kg in the snatch and 88 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 164 kg to win the gold at the hall of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce. Her lift is one kg more than the previous record of 75 kg in the snatch in women’s heaviest weightlifting category.
APF’s Shikha Thapa won silver lifting 40 kg in the snatch and 53 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 93. Gandaki’s Sinjal Gurung won bronze lifting 40 kg in the snatch and 50 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 90 kg.
APF’s Nisha Balal bagged gold in the 87 kg weight category to give her departmental team their first weightlifting gold at the Games. Balal lifted 62 kg in the snatch and 77 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 139.
Jyanti Shrestha of Police scored 63 in the snatch and 74 in the clean and jerk for a total of 137 to secure silver while Army’s Asmita Rai took home bronze scoring 125, lifting 57 kg in the snatch and 88 in the clean and jerk.
-Army women clinch hockey gold-
Army’s women’s team won the gold medal in hockey after defeating Gandanki 3-0 on penalties after the final match was tied at 1-1 in Pokhara.
Saraswati Tamang had put Army in front in the 9th minute before Gandaki equalised two minutes later with a goal from Sabita Pun Rana.
Sudurpaschim won silver with a 2-0 win over Province 1. Nilam Joshi and Dambara Thapa scored for Sudurpaschim.
