Prapti Batas, the lone participant from Nepal in the IFMA Youth World Muay Thai Championship, returned home with a silver and bronze medal from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The 14-year-old martial arts player from Gymkhana, Maharajgunj, won silver in the women’s 51kg division of the Grand Slam Championship in the 12-15 years age category. She also secured third place finish in the junior 14-15 years age category of the same weight division.
Prapti has been into the game for less than two years and her achievement at the global stage did not come overnight. “I have been training thrice a day,” the ninth grader of the British School had told the Post before her departure to Malaysia.
“Muay Thai is not popular in the country in comparison to taekwondo and karate. But I will give continuity to the game and try to make this game popular,” she said after returning home with medals from Kuala Lumpur.
Prapti took up the game inspired by her father Dipendra Raj Batas. “Few months after her training, we realised that she has got potential to be one of the best players of the game,” said her coach Rahul Moktan.
“During the training, I told her we should make an ambition to win a medal at the global stage. She also worked really hard for this,” Moktan added. “The success she earned is the result of her dedication and sacrifice for the game.”
