Multi-disciplinary wheelchair athlete Digam Singh Chemjong was honoured at the annual NSJF Pulsar Sports Award.
Chemjong was restricted to wheelchair after he suffered a road accident in Qatar in 2008 while he was there for abroad employment.
He says he was inspired to become a para-athlete after seeing a person with a similar condition like him at the hospital speeding on his wheelchair.
"The very scene shaped my future and I was determined to become a para-athlete when I returned home in 2009," said Chemjong.
A year after he returned home after his treatment, he took part in a swimming competition and won. Since that win, he never looked back.
Now Chemjong is one of the star wheelchair athletes of Nepal. He has played almost all wheelchair games in the country. He has excelled in cricket, basketball, table tennis and swimming. He is also the first professional wheelchair cricketer of the country who played for Karachi Eagles in the Pakistani cricket league.
