Taekwondo launches special programme for children
The year-long programme will be conducted at centres of six charitable organisations in Kathmandu.Sports Bureau
Nepal Taekwondo Association on Saturday launched a special taekwondo training programme aimed at children of inmates as well as girls who have suffered from various forms of violence.
The year-long programme, to be held under the aegis of World Taekwondo Federation, will be conducted at the six charity centres in Kathmandu and will reach around 250 children. The training programme will be conducted to those children whose parents are serving jail terms or are the victims of women’s violence.
Nepal Taekwondo Association general secretary Deep Raj Gurung said the association will deploy a dozen coaches at the selected charitable organisation to provide taekwondo training for children. “The main objective of the project is to provide moral support to the kids, which will enable them live their lives with dignity,” said Gurung during the inauguration ceremony that was graced by the World Taekwondo Federation President Chungwon Choue.
Maiti Nepal, Rakchha Nepal, PrisonersAssistance, Aasha Nepal, Early Child Development Centre and Janise Academy arethe centres to have special training. The Association will receive $43,000 forthe project in different installments. According to the Association, the amountwill be entirely spent on the salaries of coaches, uniforms for the trainees,equipment, upgrading examinations, launching health camps and participation incompetitions. Hemanta Dangi, the coordinator of the programme and executivemember of the association was expecting to find some new talents through theproject.
