Gaming Garage Nepal, a gaming event management and game station, is set to bring Nepal’s biggest Esports event in Nepal FIFA19 Championship on March 1-3 in Kathmandu.
The three-day event is expected to draw 512 participants who will compete in a knockout basis with Playstation 4 controller in a 12-minute FIFA19 club football match. The event will be held in Civil Mall. The winner will receive Rs 150,000 and the first and second-placed finishers will get Rs 75,000 and Rs 30,000. The fourth place winner will get Rs 10,000.
Each quarter-finalist will get Rs 5,000, while the pre-quarterfinalists will pocket Rs 2,000. Esports is a form of competition using video games and most commonly takes the form of organised, multiplayer video game competitions. Gaming Garage Nepal CEO and Founder Dipankar Dangol said the event will help put pressure on the stakeholders in regulating Esports in Nepal.
“The Esports is soon to become an Olympic sport and there is a need for government to regulate this sports to secure the future of gamers. Esports in Nepal is taken in very conservative manner. The society thinks it’s just playing video games and wasting time. I hope this tournament will change that mentality. I believe that there will one governing body which will look into the overall Esports sector in Nepal. This will help creating a platform for young gamers in pursuing a career in Gaming,” said Dangol.
The British College is the title sponsor of the tournament. Joey Foster Ellis, The British College Principal, said the event was going to be a good platform in enabling Nepal to get a breakthrough in the global Esports. “This is the platform to achieve something big in the future to participate in the international level or even in the Olympics one day,” Ellis said.
“This is just a first step. We are eyeing for many more Egaming in the near future targeting to send players representing Nepal in the events like South Asian Games, Asian Games, Olympics and many more international championships,” Ellis added.
