Prince Dahal continued to impress in domestic badminton as the Kathmandu shuttler claimed the men’s singles title of the International Invitation Open Badminton Tournament on Tuesday.
Dahal, who recently won the U-19 International Badminton Tournament singles titles in Biratnagar, defeated Praful Maharjan of Tribhuvan Army Club 21-13, 21-13 in the final to claim yet another title in Sundarharaincha, Morang. Earlier in the semi-finals, Dahal got the better of Rukesh Maharjan 21-14, 21-17. Praful had defeated Sunil Joshi of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club 21-15, 21-19 in the other last-four clash.
Nepal No 1 shuttler Ratnajit Tamang, meanwhile, won the mixed doubles title after the TAC player combined with Anu Maya Rai to beat Dipesh Dhami and Pooja Shrestha of APF 21-19, 20-22, 21-16 in the final.
In the semi-finals, the Army club pair had defeated APF duo Bijeet Thapa Magar and Shova Gauchan 21-19, 21-19. Dhami and Shrestha got the better of another APF pair Gautam Kathayat and Sunaina Mukhiya 21-8, 21-15.
Dhami and Tamang will face once again after the two top seeds of the tournament reached the men’s double finals. Dhami and Thapa Magar defeated Praful and Rukesh 21-17, 25-24 and Tamang paired with Nabin Shrestha to dispatch Kathayat and Joshi 21-9, 21-12.
