Basant Chaudhary Foundation (BCF) has extended financial support to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) for the Phil Hughes Tribute Match and Everest Expedition.BCF will provide Rs 1.5 million to the cricket governing body for the unique tribute Nepal is going to pay to the late Australian cricketer Hughes. CAN is hosting a Tribute Match at the TU Stadium on April 11 which will be followed by an Everest expedition with Hughes’ bat and parts of jersey to be place at the top of the world.
Hughes had died on November 27 after he was hit by a lethal bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match against South Australia while he was playing for New South Wales (NSW). Visiting Australian cricketers and Nepali national players will combine to form two teams for the 63-over match (31.3-over-a-side). Opener Hughes was batting on 63 before he was fell by a rising ball from Sean Abbott.
NSW and Sydney Thunder wicketkeeper batsman Ryan Carters has already committed to be a part of the match, while Cricket Australia Chairman Wally Edwards and ICC Head of Global Development Tim Anderson will also be in Nepal for the two campaigns.
The expedition will be led by Nepali mountaineer Chhurim Sherpa. BCF representative and BL Conglomerate Executive Director Parash Shakya said the support comes as a Corporate Social Responsi-bility Campaign. “There is life beyond business and we are committed to our responsibility towards the society,” said Shakya during a press conference on Friday.
CAN Acting President Deepak Koirala believed that the Tribute Match would be the most appropriate honour for Hughes.
