Sharad Vesawkar to play in GPL
Nepali national cricket team middle order batsman Sharad Vesawkar is set to represent Sun Estate Warriors in the Goa Premier League (GPL), the player confirmed himself on Monday.
Vesawkar, who is currently in Mumbai playing All India DY Patil Twent20 Corporate Cricket Tournament for Mumbai Customs, has impressed many including Prabhakar Bairgon, a renowned High Performance Coach of India. “As I was playing the tournament (Corporate Twenty20) one of the coaches of India Prabhakar was following my on-field activities and he approached me after the game to play a professional T20 league in Goa,” said Vesawkar.
The GPL began from February 25 and runs until March 8 with Vesawkar playing under the captaincy of Shadab Jakati.”I would like to take this chance with both hands to put a name for Nepali cricket in India,” said Vesawkar. Jakati has been playing for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
Vesawkar said the Corporate Twenty20 in Mumbai has instilled in him a greater confidence to compete at the top level. “Overall, this tour has taught me lot of things and I am gaining a much-needed exposure required to succeed at the top level of cricket,” said Vesawkar, adding he has been praised by Indian cricketers for his on-field discipline.
