Army club rout Three Star 5-1
Nawayug Shrestha scored a hat-trick as Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) hammered Three Star Club 5-1 to book the semi-final berth in the sixth Simara Gold Cup football tournamentLaxmi Sah
Bharat Khawas and Tek Bahadur Budhathoki also joined the scoring spree for the Army club. Jagjeet Shrestha scored the consolation goal for Three Star.
TAC dominated right from the kick off and took the lead in the 27th minute through Budhathoki when he tapped in a cross from Nawayug. TAC doubled their tally in the 32nd minute when Nawayug scored his first of the three goals. Three Star custodian Kiran Chemjong’s error cost the team their second goal as Nawayug utilised a pass from Tanka Basnet to score.
Jagjeet cut the deficit in the 48th minute but their joy was short-lived as Nawayug scored in the 77th minute. Khawas then added another two minutes later, the forward beating Three Star goalie Chemjong before firing in the goal.
This put Three Star under more pressure which resulted into the Lalitpur-based outfits conceding fifth goal in injury time as man-of-the-match Nawayug completed his treble.
TAC coach Megh Raj KC, who was delighted with his team’s comprehensive win, said his players made the most of the chances that came their way. His Three star counterpart Anjan KC blamed his team’s poor performance to exhaustion. “Playing TAC just two days after competing in the final of Pokhara Cup was a big challenge,” said Anjan. Three Star had played the final of the Manakamana Cable Car Pokhara Cup, which they lost 4-3 against Nepal Police Club on Saturday.
In an all-departmental team clash, Nepal Police Club will play Nepal Armed Police Force Club on Tuesday.
