Landslides continue along the Narayanghat-Muglin road at Tuinkhola and Kalikhola, and near Fishling on the Prithvi Highway, posing serious risks to travellers.
According to the Chitwan District Police Office, similar incidents have also occurred in Tanahun and Dhading sections of the highway, making it uncertain when the road will reopen.
“Travel updates will be given as soon as the road is cleared. For now, all vehicles kept in holding spaces are requested to remain in lanes and wait patiently,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabindra Khanal, spokesperson for the Chitwan police. Fourteen designated safety holding spaces have been set up in Chitwan to park vehicles stopped due to landslides.
To ease the situation for travellers, a meeting of stakeholders at the Chitwan District Administration Office on Saturday evening decided to provide hotel rooms at 75 percent discount of the regular rates. Police said 146 passengers have already contacted them and stayed in hotels under this arrangement.
