Seventy families of Bethanchowk Rural Municipality in Kavre have been relocated to safer locations after heavy rains increased the risk of floods, officials said.
According to Rural Municipality Chair Bhagawan Adhikari, families from ward 2 and 3 settlements, including Khalanga, Naya Basti, Patne Khola, Gellung, Simadhara, Sayle and Banepali Tole have been moved to the Mukteshwar Community Building.
Adhikari said the Durlung river in ward 3 overflowed into the Khalanga settlement after water levels rose sharply. Continuous rainfall since Saturday has heightened the risk, prompting authorities to move residents on Saturday night.
Water levels in Patne and Durlung rivers have surged, though no human casualties or property damage have been reported so far.
