Rescuers on Saturday recovered the bodies of two passengers who had gone missing after Friday’s accident involving two buses swept away by a mudslide.
The body of an Indian national, identified as Hrishipal Sah of the Indian state of Bihar was found in Golaghat, Chitwan. His body was identified by his family members, said Indradev Yadav, chief district officer of Chitwan.
Two other dead bodies were also retrieved from the Gaidakot section of the Narayani River. Of them, one has been confirmed as that of a passenger on the Ganapati Deluxe Bus, travelling to Gaur from Kathmandu.
According to Yadav, the victim has been identified as 19-year-old Ramit Kishor Majhi. His body was identified by his father.
At least 54 people are believed to be missing after two passenger buses—Kathmandu-bound Angel Deluxe Bus and a Ganapati Deluxe Bus, en route to Gaur of Rautahat district from Kathmandu—were swept away by a mudslide into the rain-swollen Trishuli River near Simaltal along the Narayanghat-Mugling road section at around 3:30am on Friday.
Three other passengers managed to escape after jumping out of the vehicle.
Despite arduous efforts from personnel of the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Army since early morning on Saturday, little progress was made.
Search and rescue operations have been halted for today and will resume at 8am on Sunday, Yadav added.
