Bagmati Province Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar won a confidence vote in the provincial assembly on Tuesday, securing the support of 57 lawmakers amid the absence of opposition parties.
Thapa had tabled the confidence motion at a meeting of the provincial assembly. Of the 58 lawmakers present, 57 voted in favour of the motion and none voted against it.
The Bagmati Provincial Assembly has 104 members. A chief minister needs the support of at least 53 lawmakers to retain the government.
With opposition lawmakers absent from the session, the motion was passed with the support of the ruling parties’ lawmakers who were present.
