The Ward No 8 and 9 of Manahari Rural Municipality in Makwanpur district were declared child marriage-free zones amid a function on Sunday.
The rural municipality has been campaigning against child marriage in cooperation with Plan International Nepal and Child Welfare Society.
“The two wards are the first among the 102 wards in the district to be declared child marriage-free zones,” said Manila Bista, deputy chairperson of the rural municipality.
“The declaration comes after several rounds of discussion and persuasion with locals and elected representatives,” she added.
