Atleast three people died in a road accident in the Sunsari section of the East-West highway on Friday. One other has been seriously injured.

The accident occurred after a motorcycle, with four persons aboard, collided with a pickup truck bearing an Indian registration number in Pakali of Sunsari district at around 11pm on Friday, police said.

All four individuals had sustained serious injuries and were rushed to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan.

According to the police, 26-year-old Karan Chaudhary, 27-year-old Sambhu Chaudhary and Aninesh Chaudhary, 24, succumbed to the injuries at the hospital.

Another Premlal Chaudhary, 27, is currently undergoing treatment at the Golden Hospital in Biratnagar.

Pickup truck driver Govinda Barmun, a local of Darjeeling, has been taken into police custody for further investigation.

Police suspect that the accident was caused due to overspeeding.
