Soaring temperatures affect life in Namche

Life in Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the world’s highest mountain, Mt Everest, has been affected after daytime temperatures reached 12 degrees Celsius.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, during this time in the previous years, the average temperature would be 4 to 5 degrees Celsius.
The temperature has been increasing for the past week, and according to locals, a similar heat was recorded also occurred 12 years ago.
“The lives of local farmers who grow seasonal crops such as potatoes and businessmen has been affected. Also tourist movement has been affected,” said Lama Kaji Sherpa, a resident of Namche Bazaar.
