Twelve injured as protestors clash with police in Biratnagar

At least 12 people were injured following a clash between police and protestors during a demonstration organised against the naming of the Koshi Province in Biratnagar on Tuesday
According to District Police Office Morang Chief Superintendent Deepak Pokharel, six protestors and six security personnel have sustained minor injuries during the clash.
Pokharel informed that the clash ensued after the protestors attempted to breach the security barricades set up by the police.
Water canons and teargas were used to disperse the crowd after the protestors pelted stones at the security personnel, Pokharel added.
The protest, organised by the Province 1 Renaming Joint Struggle Committee, was staged outside the Big Hotel in Roadshesh Chowk of Biratnagar. The venue was hosting provincial lawmakers who were scheduled to attend an interactive workshop on Resource Management for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
The workshop was called off due to the protest.
Security personnel have been deployed in high numbers to prevent any untoward incidents.
