Oli terms government-Gen Z deal ‘bogus’

CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli has termed the agreement signed between the government and Gen Z as a “bogus” and described it as a serious conspiracy aimed at pushing the country towards confrontation.
Addressing the opening session of the UML’s 11th National Convention on Friday, Oli said the deal was nothing more than political theatre designed to weaken democracy.
He insisted that the dissolved House of Representatives must be reinstated to bring the constitution back on track.
“The government talks about elections on one hand, while undermining them on the other. Staging dramas such as signing the agreement between the government and Gen Z is completely unacceptable. This is a grave plot to drive the country towards confrontation,” Oli said, accusing the government of weakening democratic institutions through such actions.
Oli reiterated that the dissolution of the House was unconstitutional and vowed to restore it. He argued that constitutional amendments should only be made through Parliament and with consensus among political parties, not through what he termed illegitimate processes.

The UML chair also criticised the government for failing to create an environment conducive to elections, despite having a mandate to hold polls and transfer power by March 5.
He claimed the government was instead fuelling instability through intimidation, restrictions on leaders of major political parties, media trials and security lapses.
“If the government truly wanted elections, it would build trust among parties, ensure transparency and create a safe and fearless environment,” Oli said, adding that mere talk of elections without proper groundwork was misleading the public.
Oli, who was ousted from the prime ministerial position after the two-day Gen Z protests on September 9, has remained most critical of the Gen Z uprising and the Sushila Karki-led government.
President Ramchandra Paudel formed the present government headed by former chief justice Karki as preferred by the agitating youths after Oli fled the prime ministerial residence Baluwatar in a Nepali Army chopper.
