University of Nepal has appointed Sunil K.C., president of the Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as a special adviser and invitee to the Executive Committee of its Board of Trustees.

The appointment is for a one-year term and was made in line with a decision taken at the 13th meeting of the university’s Board of Trustees on August 31, according to the university.

K.C. has served as an executive committee member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and is a member of the Diplomatic Council. He is also a former adviser to the Confederation of Nepalese Industries and the Independent Power Producers Association Nepal.

The university said K.C. brings experience in institutional and infrastructure development and bilateral economic cooperation. He has also been involved in Nepal’s energy sector, including Singati Hydro Energy.

K.C. is the founder and executive chair of the Asian Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs, a think tank and graduate school.

Under the terms of reference set by the university, K.C. will support institutional development, particularly in physical, financial and technical development, while keeping the university’s objectives at the centre of his engagement. He will also facilitate bilateral and other forms of cooperation related to his professional engagements and networks.

Upon receiving his appointment letter, K.C. said he would contribute to strengthening the university’s academic stature and institutional capacity.

“I will contribute to the best of my experience and ability to further enhance the academic stature, institutional capacity, and national and international standing of the University of Nepal,” he said.

He said turning the university into a centre for knowledge, research, innovation and international collaboration would require cooperation among stakeholders.
