The Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers remain at risk of flash flooding on Thursday, with more rain forecast in their upper reaches.

Saraswati Bista, a flood specialist with the Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, said rain was continuing in the upper reaches of the Bhotekoshi, and more was possible.

Water levels are expected to rise significantly in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers as they flow through Rasuwa and Nuwakot, as well as in smaller rivers and streams in the surrounding areas, she said.

“There is a high risk of flash flooding in these rivers, and people living near rivers and streams have been urged to remain alert,” Bista said.

The division said smaller rivers and streams in and around Taplejung, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Udayapur, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Sindhupalchok, Kavrepalanchok, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kathmandu, Dhading, Makawanpur, Chitwan, Gorkha, Tanahun, Lamjung, Manang, Mustang, Myagdi, Kaski, Syangja, Parbat and Dolpa also face a moderate risk of flash flooding.

Flows in smaller rivers and streams in and around Rukum East, Rukum West, Salyan, Jajarkot, Surkhet, Dailekh, Kalikot, Mugu, Humla, Jumla, Achham, Bajhang, Bajura, Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Darchula and Kanchanpur are also expected to rise significantly, with a moderate risk of flash flooding, according to the division.
