Police recapture seven inmates escaped during September protests
The inmates were rearrested through coordinated search operations, police said.Post Report
Police have rearrested seven prisoners who had escaped from various prisons in Kathmandu during the Gen Z protests in September last year.
The operation was carried out by the District Police Range Kathmandu and its subordinate offices, following coordinated search efforts.
Those recaptured include 41-year-old Tenzing Bahadur Tamang, convicted in a robbery case; 20-year-old Pritam Gurung, convicted of theft; 23-year-old Babita Tamang, convicted of human trafficking; 22-year-old Bikram Nepali, convicted of burglary; 27-year-old Bhuwan Tamang, convicted in a drug case; 20-year-old Anis Magar, convicted of attempted murder; and 26-year-old Roshan Sah, convicted in a drug case. Police said all seven have been returned to their respective prison offices for further legal procedures.
In a separate incident, a man was apprehended at the Nagdhunga checkpoint in possession of a pistol and ammunition.
A police team deployed under Chandragiri Municipality intercepted a car heading towards Kathmandu from Chitwan at around 5:15 pm on February 13 and recovered one pistol and four rounds of ammunition hidden inside a black bag during inspection.
The driver, identified as 30-year-old Keyur Puri of Kirtipur Municipality–2, was taken into custody along with the vehicle. Police said further investigation into the case is under way.
