Man arrested on extortion allegations linked to The British College
Police say suspect demanded Rs3 million while threatening disruption at the Kathmandu-based college.Post Report
Police have arrested Vivek Dhakal on allegations of extortion following a complaint filed by The British College, a private higher education institution based in Thapathali, Kathmandu.
According to police, Dhakal, 28, is accused of demanding Rs3 million from the college management and threatening to shut down the institution if the amount was not paid.
Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, information officer at the District Police Range, Kathmandu, confirmed the arrest and said it was made for investigation.
The complaint alleges that Dhakal met college officials in Naxal on December 31 and January 1, creating pressure and intimidation.
Police also say he reportedly circulated online content critical of the institution.
Investigations are ongoing, and police said no conclusion has yet been reached.
