Prime Minister Sushila Karki has called a joint meeting with leaders of the seven major political parties, the Election Commission, security agencies and civil society leaders to discuss matters related to the upcoming elections.
The meeting is scheduled for 1pm on Monday at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singhadarbar. According to the prime minister’s press coordinator Ram Rawal, the meeting aims to review election preparations. Civil society representatives have also been invited.
The meeting will focus on briefings and discussions regarding election preparations. “The home ministry will brief participants on security arrangements and election laws, and the Election Commission on preparations for the polls. This will be followed by discussions among participants and an address by the prime minister,” Rawal said.
Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Election Commission, confirmed the commission’s participation in the meeting. “The commission will be present and make a presentation at the meeting called by the prime minister, which includes political party leaders,” he said.
Prime Minister Karki had previously called second-rung leaders of major political parties such as the Nepali Congress, the CPN-UML, the two biggest in the dissolved House of Representatives, for discussions, but has not yet met the top leadership of the parties.
Karki, however, met Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Rabi Lamichhane on Sunday.
