Weapons looted during September protests recovered from riverbank in Jhapa
Police say the rusted rifles and ammunition found in bushes are among those stolen from the Damak-based Area Police Office on September 8-9.Post Report
Several weapons and rounds of ammunition looted during the September 8-9 Gen Z protests in Damak have been recovered from grass bushes on the bank of Ratua river.
According to police, the local residents noticed firearms and ammunition scattered along the river’s edge and alerted the Damak-based Area Police Office. A police team dispatched to the site recovered the abandoned weapons on Friday.
Police said all the recovered items were found in a rusted condition. The recovered cache includes two INSAS rifles with magazines, one INSAS rifle without a magazine, 134 rounds of 303 ammunition, five SLR rounds, 20 rounds for INSAS rifles, and three ammunition pouches.
All weapons and ammunition have been taken into custody and kept at the Damak-based Area Police Office.
Further investigation is underway, the police said.
