Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Tuesday assured those injured during the Gen Z uprising that her government would act firmly against corruption and injustice while staying within the bounds of law and due process.
Speaking during a four-hour discussion at Baluwatar, Karki said the government was fully committed to the movement’s goals but would not take steps that overstep constitutional limits.
“We will not move beyond the spirit of the Gen Z movement,” Karki told the group. “We will act through proper procedures and within the law. We are working according to the mandate given to us. Elections will be held, and investigations into corruption are progressing.”
Karki said that state bodies were working with urgency and that outcomes would soon be visible. “Every institution is doing its part. You must keep speaking up and continue putting pressure on us,” she said. “You will soon see the results. You must have heard what those under investigation are saying publicly.”
The injured protesters urged the prime minister to take stronger action against those involved in corruption and repression, warning they would return to the streets if no concrete steps were taken. The 18-member group was led by Rupin Khadka.
“Those we protested against are still free. What is stopping the government from arresting them? Is it the rules or the constitution?” Khadka asked.
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal briefed the participants on the progress of ongoing investigations into corruption and past crackdowns. He said several accused individuals who had tried to flee or hide their illicit assets were now being tracked.
Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, Education Minister Mahabir Pun, and Communication Minister Jagdish Kharel were also present at the meeting.
The injured protesters expressed concern that some accused were still trying to evade accountability and conceal wealth amassed through corruption, urging the government to prevent them from escaping justice.
