Post Report
President Ramchandra Paudel is set to hold discussions with political parties and the government on holding the elections as scheduled.
All parties represented in the dissolved House of Representatives, along with the government, have been invited to the meeting, which will take place at the presidential office, Sheetal Niwas, at 4 pm today, the President’s office said.
The interim government formed after the Gen Z movement has a six-month mandate to hold elections. Prime Minister Sushila Karki, who heads the government tasked with conducting the House of Representatives election on March 5, had addressed the nation on September 25, promising that the polls would be free, fair, and inclusive.
On September 12, following Prime Minister Karki’s recommendation, President Paudel dissolved the lower house and called for mid-term elections. However, with under five months remaining before the vote, the government has yet to take steps to involve the parties sidelined by the Gen Z movement in the second week of September.
The Election Commission, however, has invited political parties for a discussion on October 16 regarding the election. The meeting will also cover the National Assembly election due on February 3, 2026 as per the upper house’s regular routine of electing one-third of its members every two years.
