Election Commission opens voter roll update until November 16
Citizens turning 18 by March 4, 2026, will be eligible to register as election body prepares for polls.
Post Report
The Election Commission has announced that the collection and updating of the voter roll will continue until mid-November.
The decision was made at a commission meeting on Thursday, following President Ramchandra Paudel’s ordinance on voter registration issued a day earlier.
Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson of the commission, said that citizens who turn 18 by March 4, 2026, will be allowed to register, with the deadline for updates set at November 16.
The interim government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki has been tasked with holding House of Representatives elections on March 5, 2026, as mandated in the wake of the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9.
Ordinarily, voter roll updates are suspended once elections are declared. However, Wednesday’s ordinance amended that provision, enabling the process to continue in preparation for the upcoming polls.
