Post Report
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to leave for Spain on June 28 to attend the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), scheduled to take place in Seville, Spain from June 30 to July 3.
Prime Minister Oli will lead a Nepali delegation to the high-level event, which brings together world leaders, development partners, and representatives of international institutions to explore sustainable financing solutions for global development challenges, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Thursday.
The conference is being convened jointly by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
Prime Minister Oli was invited to the event in both his national capacity and as Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), according to the ministry.
“The prime minister is scheduled to address the Conference as the chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of the Least Developed Countries and in national capacity,” the foreign ministry said. “He is also scheduled to chair high-level events and address side events in the conference.”
Prime Minister Oli will be accompanied by his spouse, Radhika Shakya, chief advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, and other high-ranking government officials.
In addition to his participation in plenary and thematic sessions, the prime minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with heads of state and government, as well as senior dignitaries, on the sidelines of the conference.
FFD4 is expected to focus on critical issues such as climate financing, debt sustainability, and global development cooperation, particularly concerning the needs of the least developed countries in the post-pandemic recovery era.
“The International Conferences on Financing for Development are the only space where leaders from all governments, along with international and regional organizations, financial and trade institutions, businesses, civil society and the UN System unite at the highest levels, fostering stronger international cooperation,” the organisers say.
The prime minister will return to Nepal on July 4, the ministry confirmed.
