House meeting adjourned until Monday amid ongoing opposition protest
Opposition continues to obstruct proceedings, demanding probe into visit visa scandal.
Post Report
The meeting of the House of Representatives was adjourned on Sunday evening and rescheduled for 2 pm on Monday, as the ongoing parliamentary deadlock over the visit visa scandal showed no signs of ending.
Sunday’s session, which had already been delayed multiple times, finally began at 6:30 pm. However, as soon as Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire opened the session, lawmakers from opposition parties, along with some from the ruling alliance, stood up in protest.
Despite repeated calls from the Speaker urging lawmakers to take their seats and allow the House to function, protests continued, forcing the Speaker to postpone the meeting until Monday, June 10.
Opposition parties have been obstructing parliamentary proceedings for days, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and the formation of a high-level investigation committee to probe alleged human trafficking through visit visas.
According to previous statements, the opposition claims the government must be held accountable for systemic failures, accusing officials of enabling trafficking under the guise of visit visas, particularly to Gulf countries.
The deadlock has led to repeated adjournments of House meetings, affecting the legislative calendar. With no resolution in sight, it remains uncertain whether Monday’s meeting will proceed as scheduled.
