House session postponed until Wednesday amid impasse over ‘visit visa controversy’
Parliament remains deadlocked as opposition insists on Home Minister Lekhak’s resignation over his alleged link to the scam.
Post Report
The House of Representatives meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed until 1 pm on Wednesday following a continued deadlock in Parliament. The session was initially slated for 11 am but was later delayed to 2 pm before being postponed for tomorrow.
The disruption stems from opposition demands for the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over the alleged involvement of officials close to him in human trafficking via visit visas.
The opposition parties maintain that employees from the minister’s secretariat were complicit in exploiting Nepali citizens travelling abroad through Tribhuvan International Airport.

Opposition lawmakers, led by CPN (Maoist Centre) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, held a meeting earlier in the day, concluding that Lekhak must step down to allow for an impartial investigation. The Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire held consultations with chief whips from both ruling and opposition parties, but failed to forge any agreement.
On Monday, top leaders, including Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and opposition leader Dahal, held talks at Singha Durbar. However, the discussion ended without resolution as none of the sides budged from their respective stance.
Opposition parties have continued to obstruct House proceedings, accusing the home ministry of misusing its guidelines to extort large sums from travellers on visit visa through unnecessary harassment. They have insisted that an independent and full investigation is possible only if the minister resigns.
