House meeting adjourned until Thursday amid continued opposition obstruction
Lawmakers disrupt meeting demanding Home Minister Lekhak’s resignation over visit visa controversy.
Post Report
The House of Representatives meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed until 1:30 pm on Thursday, following continuous obstruction by opposition lawmakers demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
The meeting, which was due to begin at 11 am, could not proceed after opposition parties—including the CPN (Maoist Centre) and Rastriya Swatantra Party—blocked proceedings over Lekhak’s alleged involvement in the ‘visit visa scam’. The sitting was formally adjourned through a notice posted in Parliament.
This marks the second consecutive day of disruption, with Tuesday’s meeting also adjourned without entering the regular agenda due to similar protests.
Opposition parties have remained firm in their demand that Lekhak resign over allegations linked to the abuse of visit visas at Tribhuvan International Airport. They accuse the minister of failing to address corruption and mismanagement within the immigration system.
Thursday, May 29 has a crucial agenda on the parliamentary calendar as the government is scheduled to present the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
