Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli reaffirmed the government’s commitment to concluding the remaining tasks of the peace process, resolving border disputes with India through diplomatic means, and enhancing trade relations with China.
Taking part in a question-and-answer session in the House of Representatives on Thursday, the prime minister reiterated that the government is fully dedicated to ensuring justice for victims of the conflict and completing the remaining tasks of the peace process.
Stating that the Enforced Disappearances and Reconciliation Commission Act 2014 was amended in August 2024, he promised that investigations into missing persons would begin as soon as possible. “The government is determined to ensure that conflict victims and their families receive justice without any further delay,” said Oli.
Oli also addressed the ongoing border disputes with India, particularly concerning the territories of Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura. Recalling the formation of the Eminent Persons’ Groups (EPG), jointly formed by the two countries, to resolve the dispute, he said India has not yet accepted the report submitted by the group. “Prior to 1962, Nepal’s map included Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura, and this issue will be resolved through diplomatic initiatives,” he added.
In addition, the prime minister updated Parliament on the reopening of border trade routes with China, announcing that 13 out of the 14 traditional routes have now been reopened. He confirmed that diplomatic efforts are underway to reopen the Urai Bhanjyang border point in Bajhang district. “A new framework has been implemented to allow Nepali citizens from border districts to obtain permits to travel across the Nepal-China border,” Oli stated.
However, he noted that some routes might be temporarily inaccessible due to snowfall.
