Post Report
Fresh clashes broke out between the ‘No Cable Car’ group and police in Phungling, the district headquarters of Taplejung, on Saturday evening. The confrontation took place at Birendra Chowk following a torch rally held by protesters returning from Kaflepati.
Both sides sustained minor injuries during the clash, according to local authorities. Protesters from Madhesh Province also participated in the demonstration, adding to the growing opposition against the cable car project.
After the rally, several political leaders addressed a corner meeting, reiterating their commitment to prevent the construction of the Pathibhara cable car under any circumstances.
Tensions over the cable car project continue to escalate, with protesters demanding the government halt construction and address their concerns through high-level negotiations.
Various organisations and groups under the banner of 'No Cable Car' campaign have launched protests against the construction of the cable car project in the area, referred to as Mukkumlung by the indigenous Limbu people. The protesters claim that the project would harm the environment, encroach on local culture and disrupt the livelihoods of the residents.
