The Madheshi Commission has expressed serious concern over the display of racial and communal behaviour during the Nepal Premier League (NPL), recommending stringent action against the unruly groups involved. Citing that disruptive groups reportedly engaged in discriminatory conduct against Janakpur Bolts’ supporters during the qualifier match between Janakpur Bolts and Karnali Yaks, the commission called for action against the people responsible for such behaviours.
In its statement, the commission criticised state authorities for failing to act against the offenders, calling such inaction irresponsible. It also highlighted that while Nepal's constitution and laws advocate for equality and inclusion, discriminatory practices persist in society, hindering the nation’s progress.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province Satish Kumar Singh denounced the attack on Janakpur Bolts’ supporters as “unbearable and distressing.” He said that sports foster unity and harmony, but incidents of physical assault during the NPL final match had marred the spirit of the competition. Singh urged the authorities to act promptly and ensure those responsible face legal consequences.
Moreover, the CK Raut-led Janamat Party expressed grave concern over the racial abuse and assault targeted at Madheshi community supporters of Janakpur Bolts after the final match. The party called on the government to identify and penalise the individuals involved in the incident.
Similarly, Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa condemned the racial and communal behaviour, calling it deeply troubling. “Such actions cannot be justified under any circumstances,” Thapa said, demanding immediate action against the offenders. “No ifs, no buts.”
