The Nepali Army has warned of legal action against individuals disseminating false and misleading information targeting the institution and its leadership through media and social platforms.
In a press note issued on Friday, the Directorate of Public Relations and Information said it has taken serious note of what it described as baseless expressions and fabricated content being circulated against the army and its leadership in recent days.
The army said such content risks creating confusion among the public and urged individuals to refrain from spreading or endorsing such narratives.
“We remind that the Nepali Army and concerned agencies are regularly monitoring such unruly and anarchic activities, and those involved will fall within the ambit of prevailing laws,” the statement said.
Amid a rise in rumours on social media, the army also urged the public not to believe in unverified, malicious reports and commentary.
It requested people to rely on official press releases, verified social media accounts, and information published on its website, and to coordinate with the Directorate of Public Relations and Information for authentic updates.
