Two people were killed and 12 others injured in a road accident in ward 9 of Lamahi Municipality along the East-West Highway on Monday morning.

The victims, identified as Prithi Tharu, 42, and Phulsi Tharu, 60, of Shivaraj Municipality-3, died on the spot, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Ishwar Thapa.

The microbus, en route to Bardiya from Kapilvastu’s Chandrauta, veered off the road, with overspeeding suspected as the cause, according to the state-owned Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

The injured are being treated at Lamahi Hospital. The vehicle was carrying 14 passengers at the time of the accident.
