Geotechnical conference highlights sustainable infrastructure in Nepal

GeoMandu 2024, an international conference organised by the Nepal Geotechnical Society, concluded on Friday, spotlighting Nepal’s leadership in geotechnical engineering and its commitment to sustainable infrastructure development.
Held from November 28–29 in Kathmandu, the event attracted over 500 participants, including 150 international delegates from 22 countries. The conference, themed ‘Geotechnics for Sustainable Infrastructure’, showcased cutting-edge research and innovative solutions to geotechnical challenges.
The programme featured 15 keynote speeches, 16 technical sessions, and over 125 presentations, according to a press release issued by the organisers. Key contributors included Marc Ballouz, president of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, who lauded Nepal’s proactive approach to addressing global challenges, and Prof Netra Prakash Bhandary, who emphasised the event’s role in elevating Nepal’s international standing in geotechnics.
