TU Service Commission cancels recruitment exam and results amid irregularities
The commission announces plans to re-conduct the recruitment exams for candidates whose applications were previously approved.Post Report
The Tribhuvan University Service Commission has scrapped all processes related to its recent recruitment examinations for administrative and technical posts, citing procedural corruption. In a notice issued on Monday, the Commission declared the cancellation of exams and results advertised on March 1, 2017, which included 16 posts ranging from administrative officers to technical positions.
The examinations had previously been under dispute due to allegations of irregularities, leading to an investigation by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). In 2018, the CIAA filed cases against former TU Service Commission chairman Chaitanya Sharma and 11 others on corruption charges.
A Special Court verdict found them guilty of altering exam results for positions such as section officer, accounts officer, and assistant legal advisor.
Following the September 20, 2022 decision of the court, the Patan High Court ordered the publication of results for remaining posts, including deputy administrator, deputy financial controller, and technical officer. The court mandated adherence to legal procedures for processing and publishing results.
However, a recent review by the TU Service Commission found that exam-related processes, including coding, decoding, script evaluation, and interviews, were not conducted in compliance with procedural guidelines. Consequently, the commission has nullified all the related examinations and interviews. Administrative chief Kedar Dhakal in a notice confirmed that the processes were “tainted,” prompting the decision to cancel all results under the Tribhuvan University Teachers and Staff Service Regulations.
The commission has also announced plans to re-conduct the recruitment exams for candidates whose applications were previously approved. A deadline of January 5, 2025, has been set for updating the list of eligible candidates.
